Acne Studios
In 1996, Jonny Johansson, a lover of art and fashion, photography, architecture and culture, gave birth to a one-of-a-kind – and trail-blazing – collective. Initially an acronym for "Associated Computer Nerd Enterprises" and then "Ambition to Create Novel Expressions", the ACNE collective quickly evolved into a ready-to-wear brand. Based in Stockholm, Acne Studios brings a committed, multidisciplinary approach to fashion, driven by a desire to impress and amaze. With its urban and minimalist style and meticulous attention to detail, not to mention its distinctly androgynous feel, fashion through the lens of Acne Studios is alternative, eclectic and subversive. Its use of innovative materials and its collaborations with equally multidisciplinary and experimental artists (think Rosalia and Sharna Osborne) make Acne’s pieces a statement in every sense of the term.
The Acne Studios accessory range holds its own against even the biggest fashion houses: with handbags, shoes, bucket hats, caps, hats, scarves, leather goods, and more, you'll never be short of options. Its most popular bag is probably the Musubi. Promoted through a beautiful yet provocative campaign, where its meticulous lines are juxtaposed with the muscular bodies of naked men, the Musubi is inspired by the traditional Japanese obi sash. Its name also comes from the land of the rising sun, where the Musubi is a protective deity who creates ties between individuals to bring them together as one. So not only is it a sensual design, it's a bag that connects and unites. One of Acne Studios' more recent additions is the Distortion, a bag that - as its name suggests – appears to have been distorted into an angular, slanted shape. Footwear-wise, the Ballow ankle boots and sneakers are suited to any circumstances and styles. Another iconic piece from the Acne wardrobe is its simple beanie hat, featuring a simple, minimalist face, for the ultimate stylish accessory. You can now also find a selection of Acne Studios apparel at Monnier Paris.
