Balmain
Synonymous with extreme femininity, Maison Balmain has championed French excellence since its creation. In an era that battled against the tide of functional post-war fashion, Pierre Balmain stood out from the crowd with his ultra-sophisticated “Jolie Madame” style and seduced Hollywood celebrities of the 1950s. A special relationship was born between the house and its US clients, who continue to hold an immense admiration for the creations adorned with the signature B.
Though he continues to embrace the opulence, inspiration and luxurious style of Balmain, creative director Olivier Rousteing has also brought a breath of fresh air - and an unprecedented audacity - to the brand. Revisiting and updating the label's Baroque feel with golden coats of arms inspired by the rich history of Bordeaux, the city where he grew up, black and white geometric shapes and opulent details, he quickly put Balmain back on the map, forging close relationships with the icons of a new generation. Driven by a love of spectacle, he shows no hesitation in reinventing the codes of the House. Though already renowned for its buttoned-up jackets and evening dresses, Rousteing introduced Renaissance-inspired prints, stylish leather trousers evoking speed sports, and sculptural Haute Couture dresses. Inspired by the ultra-connected world around him, as well as his East African roots, Olivier Rousteing's collections are both unifying and unique. They are accompanied each season by an array of exhilarating accessories, where expert craftsmanship like leather weaving, passementerie and embroidery meet an innate sense of elegance and style.
Balmain handbags are just as stunning as the House's ready-to-wear. From the Bbuzz to the B-Army via the 1945, Ely and Blaze, they are made up of components that are each more luxurious than the last. With chains and golden details, a modernised logo, architectural black and white monogram, and more, each model has a style all of its own. Shoe-wise, the brand is all about innovation, with surprising sneakers that combine performance, comfort and futuristic curves, as evidenced by the B-Runner and Unicorn.
