Birkenstock's mission: "soft style, strong statement". And what could be stronger or more powerful than a brand that promotes its followers’ well-being? Far from a novice in the field, the German label has been around for nearly 250 years, at our feet generation after generation. It all started in 1774 in Hesse, a region that is now located in Germany, at a time when wearing shoes was all about comfort and protecting the feet. Over the centuries at Birkenstock, the art of practical footwear has been passed down and evolved, culminating in the design of its signature "foot bed" in the 1930s. This foot bed was unique at the time because it took into account the shape and movement of the foot in the shoe.
