Carel
Delicately sensual, resolutely modern, and unmistakably feminist, Carel redefines our idea of what makes the ideal shoe with its deliciously sixties style. Something of a tribute to the New Wave aesthetic, the Parisian brand designs authentic and comfortable shoes with an elegant and understated feel. Known for its Mary Janes, sold in a variety of designs, colours and heights, and especially the famous Kina, Ariana and Twiggy, Carel has managed to forge a genuine relationship with its fans.
Founded in 1952 by Georges and Rosa Carel who wanted to "prevent women from walking sadly" by offering them a practical little heel for everyday life (in response to the Haute Couture designers of the time who had begun to offer their customers a range of stiletto heels), the Carel house has carved out a special place in the hearts of Parisian women. Though Paris may be the city of Couture, its cobblestones are not the easiest to navigate in high heels. The first Carel shoes were distinguished by their "trotter" heel measuring 3 to 5 cm, and by their contemporary style. Fast forward a few generations, and the Parisian label - which makes all its models in France, Italy and Spain - continues to impress. Determined to stay at the forefront of fashion, it embraces artistic collaborations and creates more and more vibrant shoes, never afraid go against the grain.
Thanks to its retro aesthetic, Carel is living proof of fashion's ability to cross generations. Carel girls are now appropriating the little heels their grandmothers once wore, giving them a modern twist with more contemporary ensembles and looks. From Clara Luciani to Lily-Rose Depp, to Eugénie Trochu and more, they are united by their belief in the power of the patent Mary Jane. Whether styled with quirky socks for confident girls who aren't afraid to make a statement, or with sophisticated jeans and a vintage jacket for the more classic look, it's time to give into temptation and join the ranks of the Carel Gang.
