Asics
In 1949, a man named Kihachiro Onitsuka founded his eponymous shoe brand in Kobe, Japan. Some time later, the shoemaker renamed it Asics, an acronym for the Latin "Anima Sana In Copore Sano", which translates as "a healthy mind in a healthy body". The brand is based on a desire to make sports shoes for future generations who will flourish through physical activity. The Japanese brand became the benchmark for sneakers in Asia, before quickly journeying abroad and competing with the likes of Adidas and Puma. Just as athletic as those of its competitors, Asics trainers quickly made a name for themselves on basketball courts and in the kits of marathon runners. Eventually the brand’s trainers offered something for every sport, thanks to technological innovations such as the Gel sole, a guarantee of comfort and bounce.
A healthy mind in a healthy body, walking on a healthy Earth: Asics is dedicated to making a positive impact on the planet through its numerous eco-responsible efforts. 90% of Asics running shoes contain recycled materials, and the brand makes donations to various charities, too, such as supporting mental health and helping local communities impacted by natural disasters. Its focus on sustainability and caring for the world around it has made the Japanese brand a firm favourite among the younger generation, who hold these socially responsible values dear. This combination of a youthful, ethical approach and vintage-inspired design has made Asics a powerhouse on Tiktok. Sported with mini-skirts, jeans, elegant suit trousers or baggy tracksuit bottoms, the sneakers and their graphic lines have never been so popular. From the Lyte Classics and Japan S PF urban platform shoes, to the more athletic Gels, there is something for every style. If you like sporty, retro-style silhouettes, the Gel Nimbus, Gel-1130 and Gel-1090V2 are made for you. If you prefer your shoes with bold and futuristic vibes, the Monnier Paris team recommends the very comfortable Gel-Sonoma.
